Bangladesh Cricket team pool around 31 lakh Takas to fight pandemic

Bangladesh’s national team has pooled around 31 lakh Bangladeshi takas to fight COVID-19 pandemic amidst the outbreak in Asian countries. Around 27 premier cricketers have all donated half of their month’s salaries, including ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal and senior star Mushfiqur Rahim.
The novel virus has taken the world by storm, spreading across global boundaries in the span of a few days. In Bangladesh, reported cases of people infected with the virus is 39. However, that has not stopped the national team from pooling 31 lakh Takas to fight COVID-19.
It includes tax deductions from players’ salaries, as confirmed by Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) cricket operations. On Wednesday, national team manager Sabbir also confirmed that the players have agreed to donate half of their salaries for the cause.Â
"The outbreak of coronavirus is also increasing in Bangladesh. We, the cricketers, are trying to aware people in social media to take necessary steps to prevent this pandemic...we are 27 cricketers giving half of our monthly salaries to help against coronavirus. After excluding the tax the amount might be approximately 25 lakh around," read the joint statement shared by Iqbal, reported India Today.Â
On the other hand, Tamim also expressed that people in Bangladesh should be careful and stay at home in order to survive the pandemic stage. The country has not yet gone into a lock-down, with the count increasing every day. Also, Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi, too, has been seen donating a disinfectant soap, important material and food to the needy in Pakistan.
"If we can take the responsibilities and try to make contributions wholeheartedly rather than criticizing others, then we can win the war against coronavirus. Everyone, please stay home, stay safe. Be well and keep our country safe," the statement added.Â
