Few players in Indian cricket history have commanded respect like MS Dhoni, especially among peers who have had the fortune to represent India under his captaincy. Hardik Pandya was the latest cricketer to show affection to the veteran as he made sure to greet him ahead of the MI-CSK encounter.

Three weeks into the season, the Indian Premier League on Sunday prepared for the highly anticipated clash between its two most successful franchises Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. Having won five titles each and produced some classic encounters over the years, the clash has often been dubbed as the IPL 'El Clasico' and the rivalry entered a new era with Hardik Pandya and Ruturaj Gaikwad leading their respective teams instead of the past captains Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni. However, all eyes remained firm on the latter all the same as a sea of yellow filled the Wankhede, with the match likely to be Dhoni's last appearance at the venue where he had hit the iconic six to lift the World Cup with India in 2011. Before the match even began, the fans got their money's worth with a wholesome moment on the field.

While the Chennai camp was undertaking its warm-up drills with Dhoni in the mix, Pandya ran over from across the ground to embrace the former Indian skipper with open arms before the two shared some words with each other. The moment quickly became a frenzy on social media and Twitterati ensured it had its say.
