In the dying embers of a T20 innings, the only thing more crucial for a bowling team than extra runs is having to bowl an additional delivery. No wonder then that KL Rahul was displeased with the umpire on Tuesday after the umpire awarded a wide for what he thought was a well-executed dot delivery.

Chennai Super Kings rode on the back of Ruturaj Gaikwad's first ton as skipper and an explosive half-century by Shivam Dube to post a daunting 210/4 on the board against Lucknow Super Giants at Chepauk. The visitors conceded as many as 48 runs in the last three overs, a sequence of play that began with Yash Thakur's wide that sparked a heated debate between KL Rahul and the on-field umpire.

The Indian quick fired in a yorker wide of the stumps that elicited an attempted slice from Dube but the kookaburra fizzed over his bat into Rahul's gloves. The Lucknow skipper instantly applauded his bowler's accurate effort but was left shocked when the umpire extended his arms to signal a wide. Rahul wasted no time in walking across to the other end while beckoning the umpire for a discussion and the two animatedly spoke for a good few seconds before the Indian batter opted for a DRS review. However, the referral did not help his cause as the third umpire deemed the ball had passed the crease wide of the tramline, albeit by a hair's distance, and refused to reverse the on-field decision.

Given the veteran's typical composed nature, Twitterati was quick to flood social media with their reactions to an irked Rahul.
