Setbacks often invite criticism in the sporting realm but the best response is a strong comeback that silences the doubters. Ishan Kishan rode a similar wave of emotions after a flamboyant six set up his fantastic century in the Buchi Babu Trophy encounter between Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh.

The Buchi Babu Trophy in Tamil Nadu drew plenty of attention before its start due to the inclusion of various capped Indian cricketers this season. Among all, Ishan Kishan was named as the captain for the Jharkhand side that faced off against Madhya Pradesh in the Round 1 clash. Batting first, Madhya Pradesh failed to add any runs for the last couple of wickets in the morning session of Day 2, getting bundled for 225. In response, Jharkhand recovered from early blows, before a 48-run third-wicket stand set the stage for Ishan Kishan’s flamboyant knock.

Following a watchful start to his innings, Kishan got off to a fifty in 61 balls. However, the next phase of his innings saw a transition in the scoring rate as the southpaw quickly raced to the 92-run mark. Subsequently, he pulled a short ball into the body over deep square leg for a six before stepping down the ground against a fuller sprayed delivery outside the stumps to produce an inside-out over deep extra cover for a six. In a matter of two balls, the southpaw brought up his century and announced his arrival in the domestic circuit. Earlier, the wicketkeeper-batter was left out of India’s central contracts due to his refusal to participate in domestic leagues and hence the Twitterverse lauded his comeback in the prestigious competition.
