PAK vs BAN | Rain triumphs as Day 1 of second Test is called off due to heavy showers
The opening day of the second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh was called off because of incessant rain at Rawalpindi. The downpour began early in the morning and showed no signs of easing rendering the field unplayable and filled with puddles, resulting in the abandonment for the day.
The rain briefly paused when umpires Adrian Holdstock and Michael Gough, along with third umpire Richard Kettleborough tried to inspect the field. However, the downpour soon started again with no sign of stopping. With no opportunity to play, the officials declared the first day a washout without conducting the toss. Unfortunately, the forecast for the next four days in Rawalpindi predicts similar weather.
Pakistan are facing a challenging situation following their loss in the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh. On top of the defeat, the hosts have been penalized with a six-point deduction for a slow over-rate. This leaves Pakistan in a critical position where they must win the ongoing series to level the score and also need to secure victories in all their remaining eight matches to remain competitive in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
Similarly, Bangladesh cannot afford to ease up, as a single loss could put them in a must-win scenario to qualify for the WTC final.
