Shoriful Islam ruled out of Second Test against Pakistan due to groin injury

Bangladesh's left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam has been ruled out of the ongoing second Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. The 23-year-old is sidelined with a groin injury and is expected to undergo rehabilitation and aims to be fit for Bangladesh's upcoming series against India next month in Chennai.

‌In a major blow to Bangladesh's pace attack, Shoriful Islam has been ruled out of the second test due to a groin injury. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) took to their Twitter account and stated, “ Shoriful underwent an MRI following the first Test and the results show a Grade 1 left adductor strain. Recovery usually takes around 10 days in such cases and he has started his rehab.”

In Bangladesh's 10-wicket victory in the first Test at Rawalpindi, Shoriful Islam played a crucial role by taking three wickets. He also made a valuable contribution with the bat, smashing two sixes in a quickfire 22 off just 14 balls. For the second Test, Taskin Ahmed was brought into the starting XI as Shoriful's replacement.

Shoriful has appeared in 11 Tests for Bangladesh since his debut three years ago but has also missed an several matches due to injuries. On the other hand, Taskin Ahmed is making his return to the Test arena after more than a year.

Bangladesh's next challenge is a tour of India, starting with the first Test in Chennai on September 19. The series includes two Tests and three T20Is, wrapping up on October 12.
