Heinrich Klaasen to lead as South Africa names T20I squad for series against Pakistan
Heinrich Klaasen will captain South Africa in the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan. However, the squad will be without several key players like Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, and Kagiso Rabada who will miss the series due to the quick turnaround between the Test and T20I formats.
Cricket South Africa confirmed that these players will return for the One-Day International series against Pakistan, as part of their preparations for next year’s ICC Champions Trophy. The squad also sees the return of experienced fast bowler Anrich Nortje and star spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, both of whom are included in the T20I side for the first time since the 2024 World Cup. Veteran Rassie van der Dussen and rising talent Kwena Maphaka have also been selected, while all-rounder George Linde makes his comeback to the squad after three years.
The first match will be held in Durban on December 10, followed by back-to-back clashes in Pretoria on December 13 and Johannesburg on December 14.
