A batter's most cherished tool is their bat, and any damage can evoke a mix of emotions, either disappointment or a wry smile. The incident unfolded on the second day of the South Africa vs. Sri Lanka Test match when a thunderous short delivery from Lahiru Kumara shattered Kagiso Rabada’s bat.

‌On Day 2, overnight batter Kyle Verreynne was joined by Keshav Maharaj at the crease. Unfortunately for South Africa, Maharaj was dismissed in the very first over of the day. However, Verreynne showcased his form by reaching a well-crafted half-century, with Kagiso Rabada offering solid support at the other end. Amid their partnership, an unusual moment unfolded when Rabada was forced to pause his innings after his bat broke.

The incident occurred during the fourth delivery of the 90th over. Kumara bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside off stump at a sharp 137 km/h. The ball was delivered with pace and bounce which took Rabada by surprise as he attempted to defend it. Instead of connecting cleanly, the ball struck the upper part of the bat with tremendous force, causing it to snap near the handle. Rabada had to call for a replacement bat, which led to a brief pause in the game. The light-hearted moment brought smiles all around, with even Angelo Mathews joining in on the laughter. Social media was abuzz as fans on Twitter shared their reactions to the incident.
