WATCH, SMAT | Shami gears up for BGT with merciless ball-striking at Chinnaswamy
Bouncing back from setbacks is not an easy task as it can take a lot on one’s body. Its been over a year since Mohammad Shami represented the Indian cricket team due to a knee injury but looked fresh with the bat against Chandigarh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy pre-quarter final.
Bengal lost nine wickets by the 19th over before Sayan Ghosh’s defensive mindset allowed Shami to be on strike in the final over of the first innings. Following a dot and a wide from Sandeep Sharma, Shami slammed a length ball outside the stumps over the deep extra cover region for a biggie. A dot and a couple followed before Shami sliced one half-volley outside the off over sweeper cover for a six. Subsequently, he whipped a low full toss from the opposition skipper past the mid wicket region for a four. His 17-ball 32* eventually helped Bengal to reach a fighting total of 159, that looked difficult at one point in time.
Meanwhile, Shami has been in the talks to fly to Australia for the remainder of the Border Gavaskar Trophy after Australia beat India by ten wickets at the Adelaide Oval. Although there is no official update on Shami’s participation in the prestigious tournament, it has been heard that he’s due of an official NCA hearing for fitness clearance.
