Great leaders rise to their true potential only when the going gets tough -- be it Ajinkya Rahane on the last tour Down Under, Jasprit Bumrah in Perth, or now KL Rahul in Brisbane. The opener, apart from anchoring a faltering innings, was quick to let his skipper know of his mistake on Monday.

India found themselves down and out at the end of a rain-interrupted Day 4 as the top-order collapsed to leave the visitors reeling at 51/4 in pursuit of Australia's first innings total of 445. None of India's top six, barring KL Rahul unbeaten on 33, managed to reach double figures with Rohit Sharma at the other end yet to open his account. However, even in the brief six-ball stay of the Indian skipper, the duo managed to get into a mix-up that nearly cost the team a precious fifth wicket right before the final rain break of the day.

Rahul rocked back to a stock Nathan Lyon delivery on the penultimate delivery of the 16th over and nudged the ball off his pads towards midwicket, hoping for a quick single. Pat Cummins was sharp on his feet to glide to his right inside the circle as a cacophony of yes and nos erupted in the middle of the deck but much to the Men in Blue's fortunes, the Australian captain failed to collect the ball cleanly and the run was completed. In the aftermath, Rohit asked KL to let the ball pass through the region when taking a single given the risk it entails, saying, "KL, Jane de udhar se." However, his experienced partner quickly shot back with a request to make calls early, "Pehle hi boldo, me piche chala jaunga."

Even though there was no animosity in their tones, a sense of tension certainly persisted given the circumstances and Twitterati was quick to pick up on it.
