Realisation hits hard when you get a similar treatment as you offered. While England’s infamous Bazball strategy earned them a lot of success in red-ball cricket, they’ve taken several counterpunches from the opponents and Kane Williamson happened to follow a similar pattern on Monday.

Resuming the third day after a rain halt, Rachin Ravindra and Williamson took a cautious approach against the English batters at the Seddon Park. However, the veteran capatalised on the looseners and kept Kiwis ahead. Having already scored his fifty on the previous day, he neared converting this after the Black Caps surpassed 200 runs on board.

Batting on 94, Williamson danced down the ground against Jacob Bethell on the first ball of the 58th over. He came to the pitch of a loopy delivery sprayed from around the wicket and smoked it over long on from outside the line for a six. Witnessing one of the modern-day greats known for his orthodox batting, it was surprising of Williamson to go for a risky stroke to bring up his 33rd Test century. He also became the only batter to smash five consecutive centuries at a particular venue in Test cricket.
