AUS vs IND | Calf injury ruled out Josh Hazlewood ahead of Boxing Day Test
Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood is likely to be ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy with a calf injury. He suffered discomfort during the warm-up of the fourth day and was taken for scans after bowling a solitary over in the morning session at the Gabba.
Hazlewood was late to arrive in the field on the fourth day after sustaining a calf injury during the fourth day’s warm-up. His pace dropped to the early 130s in the only over he bowled. Subsequently, he was seen in a mini-conference with skipper Pat Cummins and deputy Steve Smith during the morning’s drinks session before trudging off the field.
“We have a quick update on Josh Hazlewood and the calf injury he sustained in the warm-up this morning, Adam Gilchrist aired this morning on Fox.
Reports following the scans revealed that Hazlewood would not be able to participate in the remainder of the series. In his absence, Scott Boland would be the likely replacement for the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, starting December 26. He was chatting with the Aussie support staffs outside the boundary ropes during the third session’s play, as caught on the camera.
Hazlewood bagged five wickets in the first Test at the Perth Stadium before a recurring side strain ruled him out of the second match. Boland filled his void by snaring five wickets during Australia’s win at the Adelaide Oval.
