Expectations can hurt and so it did to Indian cricketer Rinku Singh, who was omitted from the 2024 T20 World Cup squad in the USA and West Indies. His father revealed that the 26-year-old was grief-stricken while speaking to his mother over a call after being omitted from the Indian squad.

The news of Rinku’s elimination from the T20 World Cup 2024 came as a surprise to his father, Khanchandra Singh who revealed that the family was ready to celebrate with crackers and sweets. He stated that Rinku was grief-stricken on being snubbed from the 15-man squad and did call his family members to express the same.

“We had a lot of hope that he will be named in the squad. We had brought sweets and crackers as well and we felt he would be a part of the eleven. Uska to dil toota hai aisi baat nai hai (It's not that he is not heartbroken). He spoke to his mother and said that while he is not named in the 15, he is in the 18 and is going (to the T20 World Cup)"

The southpaw has been phenomenal for the Indian side after a couple of great IPL seasons for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Having played 15 T20Is, the Uttar Pradesh-based star smashed 356 runs at a scintillating average of 89 and strike rate of 176.23. His 38-ball 68* and 39-ball 69* against South Africa and Afghanistan were the epitome of his abilities lower down the batting order.

India squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj

Reserves: Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan
