Australia batting legend David Warner is set to return to a leadership role, as he will captain the Sydney Thunder for the upcoming Big Bash League. This decision comes after an independent panel recently lifted his leadership ban, which was imposed following the Sandpapergate incident.

‌David Warner has returned to a leadership role, being named the captain of Sydney Thunder for the upcoming Big Bash League. His leadership ban, which was imposed following the 2018 ball-tampering scandal in South Africa, was recently lifted by Cricket Australia. Warner takes over from Chris Green, who will continue as a player on the team.

Warner became eligible for captaincy less than two weeks ago after a three-member independent panel concluded that he had met all the necessary criteria to have the ban lifted immediately. With his international cricket career now behind him, Warner aims to revive Sydney Thunder’s fortunes after their last-place finish in the previous season.

"Captaining the Thunder again this season means a lot to me. I was part of the team from the start, and now to be back with that 'C' next to my name feels fantastic. I'm looking forward to leading from the front and sharing my experience with the young talent coming through," said Warner.

Meanwhile, Warner was released by Delhi Capitals, and his future in the IPL will be decided during the mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25.
