Opportunities are meant to showcase one’s worth, but repeated failures can be a cause for concern. KL Rahul exemplified this in the ongoing unofficial Test between India A and Australia A in MCG, where his lapse of concentration led to a puzzling dismissal and left him visibly unsettled.

‌Powered by Dhruv Jurel’s resilient 80 off 186 balls, India A had posted 161 runs in their first innings. However, the Indian lineup faced constant setbacks as Michael Neser’s four-wicket haul and Beau Webster’s three wickets rattled the visitors. In response, Australia A scored 223, with Prasidh Krishna’s four-wicket burst and Mukesh Kumar’s three wickets curbing their progress. By stumps on Day 2, India A had reached 73/5 in their second innings, leading by 11 runs. A major concern for India A was KL Rahul’s dismal form as he scored just four in the first innings, followed by a puzzling dismissal for 10 in the second.

After the dismissals of Abhimanyu Easwaran, Sai Sudharsan, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, the responsibility fell to KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal to steady the innings and build a strong lead. However, on the first ball of the 18th over, Corey Rocchiccioli delivered a tossed-up ball aimed at the middle stump to Rahul. The Karnataka batter misjudged the delivery entirely and offered no shot. After that, the ball slipped through his legs and deflected onto the stumps. Rahul had seemed to anticipate the ball turning down the leg side, but the flighted delivery deceived him, crashing into the stumps. The Australian players celebrated the prized wicket as the struggling Indian batter returned to the pavilion, visibly frustrated by the unusual dismissal. Twitterverse too came onto social media and discussed Rahul's dismissal and spoke about his form.
