The power of influence in sports is often underrated, but Kyle Mayers showcased its value. In a moment of brilliance, he executed a pick-up flick reminiscent of his Lucknow Super Giants captain, KL Rahul, in the IPL—highlighting how franchise tournaments drive cultural exchange and skill evolution.

Winning the toss and electing to field first did not pan out well for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots as Sunil Narine’s early explosion was followed by a special knock from Nicholas Pooran and Keacy Carty. The former amassed 97 off 43 while the latter was unbridled at 73 off 35 balls to steer the Knight Riders to 250/4 in 20 overs. Eyeing a similar start, Evin Lewis tried his best to counterpunch the new ball but failed out of support from the top order despite a lone six of Mayers that captivated the fans.

With 12 runs on the board in the opening over, Andre Fletcher failed to lead from the front after getting out on a silver duck. Undeterred by the early dismissal, the No. 3 batter Mayers stunned the opposition with a six on his first ball. Joshua Little bowled a fuller delivery at the leg stump that Mayers flicked instantaneously off the middle of the bat. The timing of the stroke was so clean that the ball swirled a long way over the ropes towards the deep square leg region for a gigantic six. Having seen a similar stroke from Mayers’ captain KL Rahul (in the Lucknow Super Giants, in IPL), the Twitterverse drew comparison between both batters.
