Duleep Trophy | Twitter in splits as umpire laughs off annoyed Kuldeep's appeal for field obstruction
Look away Britishers -- the spirit of cricket is apparently in tatters over in India by the empire's standards. Kuldeep Yadav, struggling for success with the ball in the Duleep Trophy opener in Bengaluru, had to resort to unsavory tactics to try and end India B's resilience on Friday.
India B refused to bow down to circumstances against India A at Chinnaswamy as thee fought back from 94/7 to post 321 on the board. While Musheer Khan was responsible for the brunt of the scoring with a marathon knock of 181, the tail played an equal part in frustrating the opposition as Navdeep Saini scored just his second-first class-half century in a 144-ball knock. The bowling side seemed to grow especially impatient once Musheer departed and just two wickets separated them from ending the innings, eventually culminating in Kuldeep Yadav having to think left-field in hope of manufacturinga wicket.
On the final ball of the 115h over, Navdeep Saini nudged the ball off his pads and sprinted for a quick single to keep Mukesh Kumar off strike. The throw came in quickly from inside the circle towards the non-striker's end and rattled into Saini's hamstring just as he completed the run. Kuldeep Yadav immediately went up for an appeal but when the umpire rendered no reaction, the wrist-spinner demanded a reconsideration with seemingly earnest belief that Saini should be ruled out. The batter was not perturbed in the least though as a cheeky smile slowly came over his face and the umpire could not help but reciprocate those expressions given Saini was not only inside the crease when the ball hit him but the throw also seemed to be going well wide of the stumps.
Twitterati, nevertheless, was all over Kuldeep for the nonsensical claim.
