Duleep Trophy | Twitter reacts to animated Iyer refusing to accept DRS decision after Patidar's escape
All it can take at times is a modicum of fortune to swing cricket matches either way, a destiny Shreyas Iyer was desperate to avoid on Friday. The India D skipper was adamant that there was no edge when Rajat Patidar was trapped in front by Axar Patel, even though DRS ruled in the batter's favour.
India C seemed to be cruising along to victory on Day 3 of the Duleep Trophy opener against India D at Anantapur, needing just 80 runs to win with eight wickets still in hand in the second session. Rajat Patidar and Aryan Juyal felt comfortable out in the middle, their partnership well past the half-century mark and inching closer to a ton. However, the game situation could have turned out to be starkly different had the umpire sided with the Shreyas Iyer-led bowling side at a crucial juncture in the first session.
India D had managed to scalp both openers Sai Sudharsan and Ruturaj Gaikwad in relatively quick succession agfter an opening stand of 64 to bring themselves back into the contest while defending 243. Iyer took the opportunity to introduce Axar into the attack against the freshly arrived Rajat and the decision appeared to pay dividends ultimately when the left-arm spinner trapped Patidar in front of the stumps in the 22nd over. The right-handed batter had missed the line as the ball drifted in with the angle from around the stump but much to his fortune, the umpire refused to send him walking for a scoure of four given there had been two noises as the ball had hit the pad. Nevertheless, Iyer was confident they had their man and sent the decision upstairs where replays showed that the red cherry had struck the pad and inside edge of the willow almost simultaneously, rendering ultra edge rather menaingless. After analyzing all relevant angles carefully, the TV umpire eventually came to the decision that there was no gap between bat and ball, thus staying with the on-field decision.
Iyer could not believe what had transpired as he walked to the umpires on the field and asked for justification. The Indian star even went so far as to shadow the incident to explain why the ball could not have hit the bat but his pleas fell on deaf ears, much to Twitterati's amusement.

Easy
Shreyas Iyer would have been an easy pick for ICT 11 over KLR if not for Nahid Rana and Taskin Ahmed

Ruturaj Gaikwad 46
Sai Sudharsan 22

Most of them got the start but failed to make it big, when it comes to Test cricket and when you are set, you need to make it big. Otherwise it feels like a waste of start. pic.twitter.com/dXlmvAksGr
Stunning spell
"STUNNING SPELL! 🤩 Manav Suthar wreaks havoc with 7/49 as India D bowled out for 236! 🏏 India C, led by Shreyas Iyer's brisk fifty, need 233 runs to win! 🏆 Can they chase it down? 🤔 #ManavSuthar #IndiaC #Cricket#DuleepTrophy pic.twitter.com/zdJ3BAnFve
