Everything is fair in love and war and apparently sports is a form of the latter without the weapons or so one would think. Mukesh Kumar reiterated how a red leather rock can be enough to inflict hurt as he thumped a bouncer into Akash Deep but was left feeling remorse instantly after.

A miraculous double century stand for the eighth wicket between Musheer Khan and Navdeep Saini has allowed India B to take a 90-run first innings lead in the Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru after folding out India A for 231 on Day 3. Mukesh Kumar and Navdeep Saini proved to be the pick of the bowlers with three scalps each but it was not all smooth sailing for the former as he was left regretting his bowling exploits after an incident in the 70th over.

India A, down seven wickets and trailing by nearly 100, had Tanush Kotian at the non-striker's end and Akash Deep on strike in the second session while Mukesh steamed in with a 70-year-old ball. The right-arm quick, hoping to extract some life from a pitch losing its sheen, pounded a short delivery into the surface from over the stumps. The red cherry upon hitting the deck jagged back sharply with the angle to dart in towards Akash who was shaping up to take avoiding action. However, as the Bengal player leaned back to allow the ball to carry through harmlessly, the movement off the pitch meant he was unable to get out of the line of the delivery and the leather rock thumped into Akash's chest.

Mukesh instantly walked the length of the pitch to wrap his arm around his new ball partner at Bengal and inquire whether Akash was fine. The physios also rushed in immediately but once all said and done, the batter decided to continue with his knock even as he rubbed his chest vigorously and applied ice to battle the pain. Such was the regret in Mukesh's mind for having given a blow to his regular season teammate that he was caught swivelling his head back in shame at the boundary rope before enclosing it in a bear claw grip. While Twitterati wished for Akash's recovery, they were left awed by the wholesome relationship shared by the two Indian quicks.
