One should be so good at something that every effort becomes a masterpiece of excellence. Despite not donning the wicketkeeping gloves behind the stumps, Alex Carey made a positive impact in the game with his outstanding fielding to draw the first blood for Australia at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Winning the toss and choosing to field first keeping in mind the dew factor, Steve Smith’s decision seemed to pay him an instant dividend when Ben Dwarshuis struck early with the ball. It took the left-arm pacer only four balls to strike with the new ball as Phil Salt headed back to the dugout, thanks to an exceptional catch from Carey.

On the fourth ball of the second over, Dwarshuis came over the wicket and bowled a fuller one at the middle and leg stump line. Salt tried to clear the front leg and whip it over right of mid on before Carey did the unthinkable. The 33-year-old swerved back and across before diving to his right and plucking the catch in a scintillating manner. The fact that Carey made good ground and didn’t let the ball slip away sparked the Twitterverse with applause.
