BBL | Twitter empathizes with Sams’ and Bancroft’s catastrophic collision resulting in fractured skull
Injuries are a part of an athlete’s career but severe setbacks can turn out devastating not just for the player but also for the team. Such was the case with the Syndey Thunder as Cameron Bancroft and Daniel Sams thudded against one another to be rushed off the field in haste in BBL 14.
Aiming to rise up the points table rankings, the Sydney Thunder won the toss and elected to field first. The Perth Scorchers openers got off to a positive start, accumulating 35 runs inside four overs before the New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter went berserk in the majority of the innings. His fifty set up 124/4 in 15 overs before a ridiculous collision took center-stage, revolving around Sams and Bancroft.
Lockie Ferguson was summoned to get the better of in-form Cooper Connolly in the 16th over and the pacer bowled a fuller one at the legs on the over’s second ball. Connolly squared up for an aerial flick and two fielders - from square leg and deep square leg - converged towards the white rock. Sams and Bancroft, the two of them were busy ball-watching and collided in disdain. The two fielders stayed still laid at the field before the physio rushed into the field. Silence prevailed following the catastrophic collision as all the Thunder fielders surrounded the two injured fielders who suffered concussions as reported by Thunder’s official Twitter handle. The two were rushed off to the hospital with Ollie Davies and Hugh Weigben named their substitutes, prompting empathetic chaos in Twitterverse.

Nasty
That's a very nasty collision between daniel sams and cameron bancroft. Bancroft has a bleedy nose but he's walking off the field with the physio. But Sams is being stretchered out. Hope he is fine. #AUSvIND #BBL #BBL14 pic.twitter.com/itgWExXK8f

Pray for them
I've seen a few bad collisions in the field but the one between Cameron Bancroft and Daniel Sams in today's BBL is one of the worst. Let's hope they are both not too badly hurt (Picture by Will Russell) pic.twitter.com/QGbTK6V1X0

Brutal
Brutal fielding collision in the BBL between Daniel Sams & Cam Bancroft.

Clear concussion for Sams - fencing response (stiff arms) is a neurological response to brain injury. Stretchered off but hopefully precautionary. Concussion concern also for Bancroft + likely broken nose. pic.twitter.com/K5QxmvOpz0
