Injuries are a part of an athlete’s career but severe setbacks can turn out devastating not just for the player but also for the team. Such was the case with the Syndey Thunder as Cameron Bancroft and Daniel Sams thudded against one another to be rushed off the field in haste in BBL 14.

Aiming to rise up the points table rankings, the Sydney Thunder won the toss and elected to field first. The Perth Scorchers openers got off to a positive start, accumulating 35 runs inside four overs before the New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter went berserk in the majority of the innings. His fifty set up 124/4 in 15 overs before a ridiculous collision took center-stage, revolving around Sams and Bancroft.

Lockie Ferguson was summoned to get the better of in-form Cooper Connolly in the 16th over and the pacer bowled a fuller one at the legs on the over’s second ball. Connolly squared up for an aerial flick and two fielders - from square leg and deep square leg - converged towards the white rock. Sams and Bancroft, the two of them were busy ball-watching and collided in disdain. The two fielders stayed still laid at the field before the physio rushed into the field. Silence prevailed following the catastrophic collision as all the Thunder fielders surrounded the two injured fielders who suffered concussions as reported by Thunder’s official Twitter handle. The two were rushed off to the hospital with Ollie Davies and Hugh Weigben named their substitutes, prompting empathetic chaos in Twitterverse.
