Shardul Thakurs Impact Player Role Goes Into Record Books

Anupam Pandey

Shardul Thakur has created an unwanted record as an Impact Player. Mumbai Indians called up on him in the chase, as he was expected to bowl some overs. But he became the first Impact player which neither batted nor bowled in the innings.

The Impact Player rule has changed things to a great extent for the IPL teams. They are able to bring down an extra batting or bowling option, which helps to keep the team alive in the game. But in the history of the IPL, no Impact Player has come into the game who didn't bat or bowl for his team.

This record has also been broken in the match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Mumbai Indians called up for Shardul Thakur as an impact player in the chase, and it was expected that he would be given an over or two to bowl for the team. However, it seems that he was not even in the plans of Hardik Pandya for the same.

Eventually, Shardul Thakur created an unwanted record as an Impact Player in the IPL. He has now become the first impact player in the history of the tournament, who didn't bat or bowl in the innings. This will surely be a record to remember for the fans, and one to forget for Shardul Thakur.

Our Take

Mumbai Indians were not able to use the Impact Player rule to its finest in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. While they had bowlers such as Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur has been one of the key wicket-taking assets for the team. Not giving him a chance to bowl would be a decision which will hurt Mumbai Indians, when they will watch the match highlights later in the tournament.
