PR vs JSK | Twitter unimpressed as Lawrence’s horrendous call ends Pretorius’ stay in must-win game

There is nothing more devastating than getting run out after being in fine nick, and Lhuan-dre Pretorius experienced that in the SA20 Eliminator against Joburg Super Kings. The Paarl Royals’ opener was pushed for a non-existent double and slipped as well before being caught way short of his crease.

‌Paarl Royals were well-placed after being sent in by Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 eliminator in Centurion on Thursday. Openers Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Kyle Verreynne got the side to a brisk start before the latter departed for a 15-ball 30.

However, the young opener continued to bring in the big hits and completed his half-century, in 33 balls, in the 11th over as the side stood just shy of the 100-run mark. But disaster struck in the last ball of the same over, with the set batter falling prey to a blunderous call from partner Dan Lawrence.

With medium pacer Daniel Worrall trying to go offside of Pretorius with a short of a length delivery, the left-hander slightly shuffled to tuck the ball towards mid-wicket. Though he ran the first run hard, the fielder was very close, and a double was non-existent.

But Lawrence thought otherwise and quickly called for a second to leave young Pretoeius with no choice. And a slight slip while turning made things worse as an accurate throw from Matthew de Villiers had him miles away from the crease.

Rivaldo Moonsamy had nothing to do but break the stumps as the wicketkeeper-batter put in a desperate dive. Twitter was left red-faced as an erroneous call from Lawrence left Pretorius on the edge as his innings came to an untimely end in a crucial knockout game.
