Venkatesh Iyer Opens Up on His IPL Title Triumph with RCB
Venkatesh Iyer became a part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the IPL 2026 season. Even though he was benched for the majority of this season, he came into the playoffs and dominated well. Recently, Iyer talked about the experience of winning the title with the defending champions.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are not just one but two time champions in the IPL now. And one of the key reasons for the team's second title win came with a lot of support from Venkatesh Iyer. Previously, the team wanted to have Venky but they lost him in an auction battle against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Following this, they finally got Iyer in the 2026 auction, when he was released by KKR. He was benched for the majority of the season, and came right before the playoffs to play in place of Phil Salt. While opening for the team, his performances were at par in the knockouts, which helped RCB to lift the title.
Recently, Venkatesh Iyer was present in an interview, where he talked about RCB's title win. He said, “We as a group are very confident, and everyone in our group knew that if we won the trophy, it wouldn't be a surprise because we were playing that kind of cricket and we were playing dominant cricket.”
Our Take
Venkatesh Iyer seems to have found a new home with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. And now, he has lifted two IPL titles in just three seasons with two different teams. First with KKR in 2024, where he played an important knock in the finals and the second with his new team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he dominated the final once again. Now Venky will aim to help RCB win its third consecutive title.
