India went on to have a flying start with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill dominating the new ball attack. They went on to score 92 runs in the first 15 overs, as Rohit Sharma targeted the offside with his attacking shots. Afghanistan was able to strike back as Fareed Malik removed Rohit for 61, but Shubman Gill continued to anchor the innings.

Ishan Kishan went on to score 48 runs, as Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer's stand kept India in control in the middle overs. Afghanistan's spin attack, led by Rashid Khan, slowed down the scoring rate as Allah Ghazanfar picked wickets. But, Shubman Gill's classy century was able to keep India's innings on track.

The turning point arrived in the final 10 overs, when KL Rahul and Nitish Kumar Reddy accelerated. They put up 67 runs, which helped India to cross the 300-run mark. Rahul went on to score 58 runs off 42 balls, as India finished at the score of 317/7 in 50 overs.

Afghanistan ended up being bowled out at 271 in just 47.4 overs. India was able to grab a convincing 46-run victory to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
