The IPL has been surrounded with a number of controversies but fans can never forget the fake IPL player. It started in IPL 2009, when KKR was having a bad season. With posts telling about the team's performances, inner matters, and more, the mystery started to grow.

If you have been watching the IPL for a long time, you would be aware of the Fake IPL Player mystery, which took place in the 2009 season. Kolkata Knight Riders were targeted badly by this fake player who used to post a number of things about the team. In the 2009 season, KKR was not having a good time, as they finished at the bottom of the table.

At the same time, a blog started in April which went by the name Fake IPL Player. It had a disclaimer that the names and incidents mentioned here do not match reality and are highly coincidental. But looking at KKR's performances and inner disputes in that season, it seemed that these blogs were written by one of the KKR players.

Things started to go worse, when two players, Sanjay Bangar and Aakash Chopra were sent back to India. Fans thought that it would be Aakash, since he also wrote a book a short time back and the blog posts were reduced when he returned. But things started to grow even more, when the blog predicted the KKR playing XI before a game.

In 4 weeks, approximately 43 posts were made and the website had 1.5 lakh visitors. Suddenly, a video was posted saying Fake IPL Player RIP, and since then the blog didn't have a single post.

Who was the Fake IPL Player?

The Fake IPL Player blog was started by a marketing professional Anupam Mukerji. He revealed this in 2010, that all the mystery behind this fake IPL player was not a player from the Kolkata Knight Riders. Instead, it was a marketer sitting in Bengaluru who wrote things to keep the fans' attention to his website.
