Englishman Trevor Morgan has been reinstated as the head coach of East Bengal after the departure of Biswajit Bhattacharya from the helm. Morgan, who has previously had a successful stint with the Kolkata-based team, will arrive on Friday to takeover from the caretaker coach Sanjay Majhi.

East Bengal were in search of a new manager after Biswajit Bhattacharya resigned from his post, following their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Bengaluru FC, which ended their title hopes for this season. Bhattacharya had later stated that a few players have 'stabbed him in the back', leaking sensitive dressing room information to the media.

Sanjay Majhi was appointed as the caretaker coach after his resignation, with two rounds of I-League matches remaining for East Bengal this season. However, with the Federation Cup looming large on the horizon, they were looking for a permanent solution.

On Wednesday evening, the Red and Gold Brigade announced the appointment of Trevor Morgan at the helm. The former Bolton Wanderers centre-forward has coached East Bengal from 2010-2013, during which he won a hat-trick of Calcutta Football League (CFL) titles, the Federation Cup, and reached the quarter-final of the AFC Cup with an unbeaten record – something which still stands as a record for an Indian club. He is one of the most successful foreign managers to have coached in Indian football, and his arrival will provide the supporters with a new sense of hope ahead of the Federation Cup.
