Mohun Bagan have revealed their plans to host a team of former Barcelona stars in an exhibition game against a veterans team of the hosts’ club in September. The La Liga champions have maintained that stars like Patrick Kluivert, Frank de Boer, and Edmilson are all on the tentative list to play.

Mohun Bagan, one of India’s oldest and most reputed Football clubs, has played host to multiple international teams in the past. The likes of Brazil legend Pele’s Cosmos team and German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn’s Bayern Munich have played at the highly rated Salt Lake stadium in Kolkata in the last two decades or so.

Now the Bengal based club have announced their plans to play host to a team of former Barcelona stars in an exhibition game. The match will pit the Barca legends against a veteran team from home team and is scheduled to be held at the Salt Lake Stadium on September 28.

"In the past, Mohun Bagan hosted Pele's Cosmos and Bayern Munich in their goalkeeper Oliver Kahn's farewell match here. We are now proud to host another powerhouse in world football," Mohun Bagan secretary Anjan Mitra told a news conference on Sunday.

Although it's yet to be confirmed who would represent the La Liga champions in the match which has been termed as 'the clash of the legends', the organisers have boasted that former stars like Patrick Kluivert, Frank de Boer, and Edmilson are all on the tentative list of players to feature in the match. Italian defender and World Cup-winner Gianluca Zambrotta, who also coached ISL side Delhi Dynamos in 2016 could also be part of the Barca XI for the match.

Former Mohun Bagan and India striker Sisir Ghosh said, "We are exploring this option of setting up our own legends team which can play various exhibition and charity matches throughout the year."

Kaushik Moulik, founder of Football Next Foundation, which was the driving force behind getting the Barca legends to the city of Kolkata said it was a dream come true for him.

"It has always been my dream to provide our city with the best footballing experience and what can be better than having one of the best football teams in the world play against Mohun Bagan," said Moulik.
