I-League defending champions Chennai City FC have roped in Japanese footballer Katsumi Yusa for the 2019-20 season. The attacking midfielder played for NEROCA FC in the previous edition of the league and prior to that had also represented Kolkata clubs Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.

Amidst all the uncertainty regarding the future of the I-League, the defending champions have drafted in Japanese attacking midfielder Katsumi Yusa to strengthen the team for the upcoming season. The Akbar Nawas-coached side, which impressed one and all with the terrific performance not only in the I-League but also in the Super Cup, will be targeting AFC Cup and AFC Champions League tournaments coming up in the season.

The 30-year-old footballer from Japan has been a regular in Indian football for last few years where he has represented an I-League club for most of the time and had played in the Indian Super League only once. Making his entry into Indian football with ONGC in 2011, he shifted his base to Kolkata and played for both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. He even won the I-League title with the Mariners in the 2014-15 season. He played for NEROCA in the previous season and had represented NorthEast United FC in ISL 2016.

With the signing of the midfielder, Chennai have completed its Asian foreign player quota for the upcoming AFC Cup and AFC Champions League in 2019-20 season.
