Mumbai City continue to strengthen their back line with the potential signing of Pratik Chowdhary, after the centre-half had a decent outing with Jamshedpur FC last season. The Mumbai-based franchise had reached the playoffs last season and has invested highly in extending their ambition this time.

According to reports from Goal, Mumbai have been on the verge of signing Chowdhary for the 2019-20 Indian Super League (ISL) season. The side has lost a defensive general in Lucian Goian, who left for Chennaiyin FC, but has brought in a season Mato Grgic in his place.

Chowdhary had played nine matches for the Men of Steel last season, mostly during the end, and would be fighting for a place in the starting eleven with Valpuia and Anwar Ali Jr, who returns from loan to Indian Arrows.

Coach Jorge Costa has roped in the likes of Rowllin Borges, Sarthak Golui, Surchandra Singh, and others to strengthen the domestic core. After finishing in the top four last season, Mumbai would have the extra incentive of finishing at the top of the table with an AFC Champions League at stake and the 29-year-old centre-half could be a big help.

A veteran ISL enforcer, Chowdhary has previously played for Delhi Dynamos as well as Kerala Blasters, with whom he has an ISL runners-up medal in 2016. Not only ISL, but the player was in the I-League winning Mohun Bagan squad of 2014-15. Chowdhary has played in Air India, and the now-defunct Mumbai FC as well.
