NorthEast United head coach Robert Jarni has stated that the 1-1 draw against Jamshedpur on Monday at the JRD Tata Sports Complex is great for them. The coach further went on to reveal where NorthEast made mistakes and shared his views on NorthEast United's next match against table-toppers ATK.

NorthEast United continued their unbeaten run in the ISL with a 1-1 draw against a strong Jamshedpur FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Monday. The home side, Jamshedpur was leading till the 89th minute with the goal from Sergio Castel, however, Greek winger Panagiotis Triadis levelled the scores for the Highlanders to make it 1-1.

NorthEast United moved to the fourth position on the table with ten points in six games. And head coach Robert Jarni has termed the draw as a great result.

“This is a great result for us. We knew this is what is to be expected here. As I said before, for me, this is the best team in India. One point here is very good for us,” Robert Jarni told reporters at the post-match press conference, ISL website reported.

NorthEast United played defensively where they went down by the goal of Spanish striker Sergio Castel and the coach said, “Yes, we played a defensive tactic in the first-half because we needed the extra midfielder as we didn’t have space in the middle.”

However, the Highlanders fought hard in the second half to settle the scores and seconds before the injury time Greek winger Panagiotis Triadis scored the equalizer from an Asamoah Gyan assist.

“In the first-half, we played very good defensively. We made a few mistakes, three to four mistakes, and we gave Jamshedpur opportunities. But we lacked quality in the attack. In the second half, we were down 1-0. We gave it our all, put in the attacking players and showed a lot of character,” the Croatian added.

The 51-year-old coach also spoke about his thoughts on Northeast United’s upcoming match against tale toppers ATK. “The next match, like all other matches, is something we want to win. I know we will play against another team who is in form and are very good, but we are playing at home. More importantly, centre-half Kai Heerings will be back.” Robert Jarni concluded.
