Borussia Dortmund star Julian Brandt has asserted that he and Marco Reus could form a lethal partnership in midfield which will help the Bundesliga giants flourish. The German star moved from Bayer Leverkusen to Dortmund for €25 million this summer and has already contributed to eight goals so far.

Julian Brandt is starting to feel very much at home at Borussia Dortmund and has said that he can sense a special connection growing with BVB captain Marco Reus with the two men combining to produce 19 goals in 20 appearances. Lucien Favre’s men thrashed Fortuna Dusseldorf 5-0 at the weekend and Brandt featured in central midfield alongside Axel Witsel.

In an interview with the Bundesliga, the German went on to speak about his partnership with Reus and how he believes that together the duo can become as effective as Brandt and Kai Havertz were for Bayer Leverkusen. The two Bayer stars had an explosive partnership and Brandt feels he is making a similar connection with the 30-year-old Reus with Lucien Favre opting for a 3-4-3 with Thorgan Hazard, Reus and Sancho being the front three and Brandt as a central midfielder.

“Sometimes you just need a bit of time to get used to each other. Now we're able to be far more effective. It's about knowing where the other player is, even if you can't see him. In the past few weeks, I've played out wide, then as a striker, and today I played centrally. It always felt like Marco was in a different position on the pitch,” said the 23-year-old to the Bundesliga.

"But I've realised that things could turn out to be the same as they were for me last season with Kai Havertz at Bayer Leverkusen. Unfortunately, these combinations don't always work overnight. Marco and I have always had patience though. We believe it's working."

Brandt further admitted that despite him playing predominantly as a winger, he believes that he can make the switch to a more central role as an attacking/box-to-box midfielder. The German also added that his move has seen him struggle to adapt to a new club and a new playing style but also admitted that he will eventually find his footing and flourish.

“It's a lot of fun to play there. Being able to get into the game from the centre of the pitch can really bring it to life. In central midfield you're connected to every player, and an important link between defence and attack. That was certainly the case against Fortuna, and it worked really well! We're not robots. We all make mistakes and there are times when things don't quite work out the way you imagined. In my opinion, we've managed to get out of this situation at a really important time, where there's been a lot of negativity surrounding us,” concluded the German international.
