Reports | Bengaluru MLA approaches Karnataka Athletics Association to end Kanteerava issue
According to Sportstar, a Bengaluru-based MLA has approached the Karnataka Athletics Association to urge them to drop the tough stand of the association against football games at the Kanteerava Stadium. The stadium has been the home venue of the reigning ISL champions Bengaluru FC.
With the Karnataka Athletics Association taking a stand against all footballing activities at the Kanteerava Stadium being an important issue at the moment, considering the Indian Super League’s sixth edition approaching soon, a city-based MLA has now gone on to urge the Athletics Association members to drop their stand.
The MLA has made a fresh effort to ensure that the game of football continues to take place at the prominent venue which has been the home of the Sunil Chhetri-led unit, who were crowned champions in their second edition of the league after being the runners-up in the first. According to the report, a representative from JSW, the owner of BFC, was also present with the MLA.
A month ago, the Karnataka High Court had ruled that the previous agreement, which allowed BFC to play its home matches at the stadium, was against the guidelines of the Supreme Court and also ordered an enquiry into the matter.
“We made it clear that this stadium should be for athletics only,” a senior official who attended the meeting told Sportstar.
“They asked us to allow football for a few more years till a new stadium can be built. But our view will not change. It’s getting very tough for our athletes to practise. BFC have such a big campus in Ballari. They can easily move there.”
