The AIFF has decided to organise a re-match between Real Kashmir and Minerva Punjab in the ongoing I-League season. Defending champions Minerva had earlier refused to play the match, which was scheduled to be played in Srinagar on February 18, citing security concerns after the Pulwama attack.

After all the discussions and meetings, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has finally decided that it will organise a re-match between Real Kashmir FC and Minerva Punjab in the I-League. In the wake of the Pulwama terror attack in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the Punjab club had cited security reasons and didn’t turn up for the match against Real Kashmir in Srinagar on February 18. The defending champions were not willing to forfeit the game and took the matter into the Delhi High Court. The decision of organising a re-match has come as a reprieve for Minerva Punjab. However, they have no chance to make it to the top six of the points table to earn direct qualification for the Super Cup.

“The AIFF Emergency Committee on Monday decided that there will be a re-match of Real Kashmir and Minerva Punjab but the date and venue is yet to be decided,” I-League CEO Sunando Dhar told PTI.

“We have communicated this to Real Kashmir (since they are the host team) and we will take a decision (on the venue and date) after they give a reply. The plan is to have the match before the Super Cup preliminary round starts (on March 15). I don’t want to say anything on date and venue now.”

After the High Court had asked Minerva to go the league committee, the league committee referred the issue to the emergency panel and it took the decision of a re-match. I-League CEO, however, didn’t say anything about chances of playing the match in Srinagar.

“Let us wait for what Real Kashmir wants, in their reply,” the I-League CEO said.
