Football governing body AIFF are reportedly planning to bid for major upcoming football events like U17 Women's World Cup 2020, U20 Men's World Cup 2021 and other AFC competitions. The resounding success of U17 World Cup, which saw record breaking crowds, has prompted them to host further events.

The AIFF (All India Football Federation) has come up with an aggressive strategic plan for the period of 2019-2022, according to reports from Goal. They have already submitted a bid to host the U17 Women's World Cup 2020, and are also expected to make a bid for U20 Men's World Cup (2021).

To further compound that, they also desire to host various upcoming AFC (Asian Football Confederation) competitions like AFC U23 Men's Championship (2022), AFC Asian Cup 2022 (Women's), FIFA Futsal World Cup (2024) and the AFC Asian Cup (2027).

The federation has been of the opinion that hosting such mega-events would motivate all the stakeholders involved in the sport, right from the government agencies to the fans. Such a mass outreach of international events would help the sport to grow and in motivating more people to take it up. This would also result in more funding and usage of various sports facilities which will help infrastructure to develop at a greater scale.
