FC Goa wins GFA U20 TACA Goa title
FC Goa bagged the third trophy of the season as the Young Gaurs got the better of Sporting Clube de Goa 2-0 in the final of the GFA TACA Goa U20 Championship. Lesley Rebello and Wasim Inamdar were the goal-scorers for the champion team in the final match on Thursday.
The Gaurs were on the front foot early on as Bryce Miranda and Vincy Barretto caused havoc with their direct play on the wings. FC Goa were handed a further advantage in the 22nd minute of the game when Sporting’s Trijoy Dias was shown a straight red following a two-footed tackle on Sarineo Fernandes.
Whilst the young Gaurs enjoyed the majority of the possession, the Sporting goal was largely untroubled till late in the second half.
The insistent pressure from FC Goa finally paid off in the 74th minute when Sezwin Fernandes’ corner was bulleted in by Lesley Rebello from close range to give Goa the lead.
As Sporting went in the lookout for an equaliser, Wasim Inamdar found space behind the back line and chipped it over the keeper to score his second in as many games in the second minute of added on time.
The win marks the third trophy in FC Goa’s season after the Gaurs had earlier laid their hands on the Super Cup and the Goa Professional League.
