Playing for Newell's Old Boys still a dream, says Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi has admitted that still wants to play for his former boyhood team Newell's Old Boys but the decision is not up to him. The rumour mill has been on overdrive linking Messi with a move away especially since his potential free-agency was revealed, with the MLS his top destination.

Lionel Messi started his playing career at Newell's before being spotted by FC Barcelona scouts and subsequently invited to take part in La Masia academy. The 32-year-old has come a long way since then, becoming a serial winner and one of the greatest modern football players. He also happens to be the holder of multiple records in international football as well as the Ballon d'Or for five times, and FIFA The Best award six times.

In a quiz made by FIFA, Messi approached the subject of retiring and joining Newell Boys again, going on to say, "It’s a childhood dream of mine to play in the Newell’s shirt, though I don’t know if I can make it happen. It’s not just down to me, though. I’ve got three children."

He doesn't share the same opinion when it comes to coaching though, "I’ve always said that I don’t, but you never know. I look at them and start thinking that I would like to work with youngsters, to train them and coach them, but right now I honestly can’t see it happening."

On Barça or Newell's the most important thing is to enjoy the player while we have the opportunity to see him week in week out.
