Hopeful of La Liga resuming on June 12 , confesses Javier Tebas
La Liga President Javier Tebas is hopeful that the La Liga would start on June 12 following a three-month gap owing to the Covid-19 outbreak. The German Bundesliga is the only major European league was the first to announce a resumption date and will be back in action this weekend.
After closing shop in early March, Spanish clubs of the first and the second tier have started individual training a few days back under strict regulations after getting a go-ahead from the government. La Liga president Javier Tebas, on Monday, announced that he is hopeful of a June 12 re-start to the league with matches to be played every day in order to complete the remaining matches.
"I'd like to restart on June 12 but we have to be prudent and it's not just up to football, it's also up to society, we all need to focus on complying with measures to protect health," said Javier Tebas to Movistar, a Spanish television network.
"Now that we are not going to have fans in the stadiums we are going to have some innovative ideas for broadcasting the games. There's going to be football every day once La Liga returns,” added the official.
Even though five players were tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, Tebas feels that the number of cases has been far less than expected and the probability of the virus spreading is minimal once the matches restart.
“Out of 2,500 people tested we have only eight positive cases, which is good news. Infection during a match is practically impossible as we have done a study which we're releasing which will show there is minimum risk in matches if we all respect the health measures," concluded Tebas.
