Erling Haaland donates rare £100K book to inspire youth
Erling Haaland spent £100,000 on a rare 1594 Norwegian book, making it the country’s most expensive. The Manchester City striker donated the only surviving copy to Time municipality’s Bryne library. Bought for 1.3 million kroner, the historic saga collection will remain on public display.
For the Erling Haaland, a remarkable gesture off the pitch has grabbed attention after the Manchester City star spent £100,000 at an auction before donating the item immediately. The 25 year old striker purchased a rare 1594 edition of Snorre Sturlason's Royal Sagas for 1.3 million Norwegian kroner, making it the most expensive Norwegian book ever sold.
Despite admitting that reading is not his main interest, Haaland explained that his intention was to inspire young people from his hometown area of Bryne and the wider Jæren region. The historic book, which contains stories of Viking era kings, queens, warriors and farmers, will now be permanently displayed at a public library in Time Municipality, ensuring access for future generations. The purchase was made alongside his father Alfie Haaland, with local authorities expressing gratitude for the contribution.
Officials highlighted that the donation promotes reading and encourages ambition among youth. Away from this gesture, Haaland has also made headlines for his luxury spending, reportedly buying a limited edition Mercedes Maybach Virgil Abloh worth over £400,000, with only 150 units produced worldwide.
