Barcelona Ready to Invest €100m in Lewandowski’s Successor.

Julian Alvarez and Joao Pedro are leading targets, while Barcelona have reduced plans to strengthen defence due to internal options and returning players. When the 2025 26 season ended in Spain, Barcelona stepped up their search for a long term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. According to reports from AS, the Catalan giants have made signing a new striker their top priority for the upcoming summer transfer window.

The club are preparing to invest more than €100 million on new signings, with most of that budget expected to be spent on bringing in a world class No. 9. Lewandowski’s expected departure has opened space in Barcelona’s wage structure, while the club are also hopeful of returning to La Liga’s 1:1 financial rule before the transfer window begins. That would give them greater freedom in the market after facing financial restrictions in recent years. Barcelona were initially looking to strengthen their defense too, but interest in Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni has cooled.

The emergence of young defender Gerard Martin and Andreas Christensen’s return from injury have reduced the need for another centre back. Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez and Brighton striker Joao Pedro are currently the two leading attacking targets on Barcelona’s shortlist. However, reports claim Atletico could demand around €150 million for Alvarez, which may complicate negotiations for the Spanish champions.
