Chess Olympiad | Indian men beat Czech Republic, women suffer painful defeat

In the open category, India’s experienced chess player, K Sasikiran, playing the side of white pieces, offered the desperate win on the fourth board in 36 moves against Jiri Stocek. At the end of the round, including India, there are seven teams with 13 points, while USA and Poland are reserved the placement on top most slots.

Resting P Harikrishna, the team captain and coach brought in the normally aggressive player B Adhiban. Adhiban with black army decided to split points with Hracek in 17 moves and not more. Further on, the Indian think-tank Viswanathan Anand also held an easy draw against David Navara in 30 moves. Similarly, Vidit Santhosh Gujrathi on the second board drew against Victor Laznicka after 67 moves.

Though it was a lucky day for the boys on a board, the women’s team went down to Hungary at the end of the eighth round. Indian women’s team handed over the responsibility to Koneru Humpy and Tania Sachdev against the Hungarian eves, but they went down convincingly. On the fourth board, India's Eesha Karvade drew with Julianna Terbe.
