Mahbub Anam, BPL governing council member, dropped some bombs today as he announced a set of rules for the new season, the motive being expansion of the national pool of players. The most notable of them was mandatory inclusion of a leg spinner and a 140 kmph plus bowling pacer in the playing XI.

The Bangladesh Premier League has been in existence since 2012 and is the 16th most attended league in the World. The league has been attracting the big names of the cricketing world and has been in the news for its growing quality. The Bangladesh Premier League governing council member Mahbub Anam today announced a set of restrictions aimed to boost their domestic talent. Although it might seem harsh, the effort BCB is putting to upgrade their bench strength and improve the raw talent is commendable.

"We had made some rules and regulations for each teams participating in the tournament. The theme of BPL is clear that we want to bring out players from this tournament. The significance of the tournament will be lesser if Bangladeshi players cannot bowl or bat in the right position,'' Cricbuzz reported Anam saying.

''We are looking for leg spinners. When a franchise came into a tournament they are more interested in winning and as a result in some areas we are lacking in the national team. So we have taken suggestions from the national team and they insisted they need leg spinners and so we have decided that every team will have to play a leg spinner and he have to complete his four-over quota and that will also ensure that he is playing in the best XI.

''And we want international fast bowlers who bowl around 140 kmph because we want to grow our players through this balancing act,'' he said ''We want to make sure that our batsmen and bowlers get enough opportunities [against quicks and leg spinners], something that was not possible when it was a franchise-based BPL."

Anam added that there has been considerable interest amongst the foreign coaches to be a part of the BPL and keeping that in mind each team will have a director leading the side. Each team will also have a foreign physiotherapist and trainer while local coaches can only work as assistants to the head coaches from the upcoming season.

Bangladesh are scheduled to tour Pakistan for playing two Tests and three T20Is in January-February 2020, though the series is subjected to security assessment. The tournament might be delayed by a day or two as the BCB is waiting for the outcome of the series.
