Gautam Gambhir rues the unprecedented rain as the major reason for their loss last night against home team Rajasthan Royals and claimed that it made things difficult for his batsmen. He has also added that the wicket was beautiful to bat on and it was one of the flattest wickets in the country.

It has been a disappointing return so far for the newly-returned homeboy, Gautam Gambhir who has overseen two defeats in two matches as the captain of Delhi Daredevils in this edition of the IPL. A lot was expected from the boys from up north ahead of the tournament who also managed to rope in former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting as head coach to ensure a decent outing in the IPL this time around. But the boys in red and blue fell to their first defeat when they lost their opener against a high-flying KXIP team by six wickets.

In yesterday’s match of the day, Rajasthan Royals took on Delhi Daredevils, with both teams coming off defeats in their respective openers. But it was the home team who managed to emerge victorious as they successfully defended a total of 71 in a rain-marred encounter to add the woes of Gambhir. In his post-match interview, Gambhir highlighted the lack of overs as a major issue for the defeat as he claimed that his batsmen needed more time on the crease to get going in order to chase the target.

“It was a beautiful wicket to bat on, one of the flattest wickets. Thought if we could contain them to 170, we had a good chance. We had to go from ball 1. There are hardly any balls, difficult for our batsmen,” Gambhir said.

The visitors had managed to restrict the Royals before the rain nearly wiped the match away. In the end, the home team’s score was 153/5 and DD were left to chase 71 runs in six overs. Ajinkya Rahane-led RR managed to restrict the visitors to 60/4 and earned their first win in the tournament as a result.

“Good way to start at home. We thought 71 was difficult to chase, focusing on things we could control. When we were batting, we thought 165 to 170 would be good. T20 is all about starting from zero, whether we win or lose,” said Rahane.
