If there is anything more popular than MS Dhoni’s lightning quick stumpings, it is his trademark helicopter shot. Today, however, it was Hardik Pandya who, on the last ball of the Indian innings, managed to pull off an inch perfect helicopter shot that would have made Dhoni beam with pride.

India got off to a perfect start as Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma thrashed the Irish bowlers and fell just 12 runs short of the world record opening stand in T20Is when the southpaw was dismissed with the scorecard reading 160 in just 16 overs. India looked to be on course for an enormous target as Rohit and Raina added another 27 runs in the next two overs before the latter was dismissed. India decided to send in MS Dhoni above both Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli and the former skipper proved his worth as he led the way to add 11 runs, in a 14 run over, to the Indian total.

With India already past 200, it was a matter of consolidation for the Irish. They managed to do it and how! Not only did Peter Chase, who had conceded 28 runs in 3 overs, manage to get Dhoni and Rohit out on consecutive deliveries, he got the prized wicket of Virat Kohli as well, all the while conceding just one run. But the fans who would have turned away after Rohit missed his chance of scoring his 3rd T20I century.

Chase decided to do what any pacer does on the last ball of an innings - bowl a yorker outside the off stump to with Hardik Pandya, who is predominantly a leg side player, at the crease. But to everyone’s surprise, Pandya just turned his body almost 90 degrees and produced a textbook Dhoni helicopter shot to clear the long off ropes. Not only did that mean that India finished the innings with 208 on the board, it also gave Indian fans something to cheer about after a disastrous over.
