Reports : CoA had told Virat Kohli of Mohammed Shami's controversy before putting his contract on hold

Before temporarily dismissing Mohammed Shami’s name from the new contracts, the Committee of Administrators had informed Virat Kohli about the same. Yesterday, Shami’s wife had raised an allegation of domestic violence and infidelity against the Bengal pacer, which Shami denied on Twitter.

Yesterday, it came to notice that Shami’s wife Hasin Jahan had informed the police about Shami’s suspicious extra-marital activities when Shami was busy in playing the Deodhar Trophy in Dharamsala. However, Shami, on Twitter, stated that the news was fake and that it was a "conspiracy" to defame him. However, the board was aware of the complaint and decided to withhold his contract after informing Kohli about the same.

“BCCI is in a bit of dilemma because there is a question of ethics involved here. Anyone can say that it’s purely a personal issue and has nothing to do with his professional life. That argument can be taken,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by DNA.

“On the other hand, some might accuse BCCI that a player has been rewarded despite such serious allegations, including an attempt to murder, are being levelled against him by his wife.”

However, it was also reported that the original list had Shami’s name on it, but CoA decided to talk to skipper Kohli and head coach Shastri about of the whole situation. After talking to the duo, the COA then put the pacer's contract on hold until more clarification on the matter.

“It was a call from COA on Wednesday asking BCCI to put Shami’s name on hold till further decision that cleared the air,” added the official.

In September, England all-rounder Ben Stokes was seen fighting with a guy outside of a pub in Bristol which led to his suspension from the England cricket team. The ECB also decided not to pick him in the team for the Ashes and was only recalled for the ODI series against New Zealand after the verdict of the case was out. The official also compared the Shami fiasco with the Stokes' one.

“This was despite Stokes being named the vice-captain for such a high-profile series like Ashes. And the charges against him was of causing ‘bodily harm’. But here in the case of Shami, his wife is alleging an attempt to murder and we all know that it’s a non-bailable offence as per the law,” the official said.
