I have learned a valuable lesson, says David Warner
David Warner, who was sacked by the Cricket Australia, said that he has learned a valuable lesson from the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa earlier in March. Along with David Warner, Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft were also banned by the Australian board in the sandpaper gate scandal.
The former Australian vice-captain, who was held guilty in the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa, was banned for 12-months from playing cricket, stated that he has learned a valuable lesson from the incident.Ā Ā
"Sometimes with our society, something has to happen for the worst for people to come out and show a lot of support and I think I've learned a valuable lesson in this myself for the support I have been given to be on the front foot to help others," Espncricinfo quoted Warner's interview to NT News.Ā
The flamboyant batsman revealed that he missed cricket in the starting, but has been happy now to spend time with his family. He added that he was enjoying and embracing his time with his wife and kids.Ā Ā
"I think the biggest thing for us has been when you are in a routine you can get caught in a bubble - cricket, hotels, packing your bags, coming home. I've missed that part until now where the kids run up to the gate saying, 'Mummy and daddy are here', and I am really enjoying and embracing that," he added.
Warner was the last one among the three caught in the ball-tampering scandal to make a public apology for his actions. On March 31st, he apologized to his fans for betraying their trust in him.Ā
"To the fans and the lovers of the game who have supported and inspired me on my journey as a cricketer, I want to sincerely apologise for betraying your trust in me," he had said.
Along with Warner, Steve Smith was also banned for 1 year while Cameron Bancroft, who applied sandpaper to the ball, was banned for nine months. Australian coach Darren Lehmann had also resigned from the post head coach, after the last match in Johannesburg and has now been replaced by Justin Langer as the head coach of the team.
