Ahead of the series against the Windies, Kohli sterned the crowd to back Rishabh Pant and not chant MSD when the youngster misses a chance, in order to boost his confidence. Pant, in the last three T20I series, made lacklustre contributions with both the bat and behind the stumps.

Virat Kohli has called in for collective responsibility to help the youngster Rishabh Pant regain his form ahead of the 2020 T20 World Cup. The 22-year-oldā€™s constant criticism in the media has irked both the skipper Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma. Returning Kohli echoed Sharmaā€™s sentiments of giving Pant the chance to shrug off his ā€˜dismal form.ā€™Ā

When India played Bangladesh in the T20I series, stand-in skipper Sharma was questioned about Pantā€™s poor showing, to which he replied ā€˜leave the youngster alone.ā€™ Kohli, now, has asked the crowd to support the youngster in regaining his form, and not making it worse for the youngster with chants of ā€˜MSD MSDā€™ in the crowd.Ā

"If he misses a chance or something, people can't shout MS in the stadium. It's not respectful if I have to put it that way. No player would like that to happen. If you're playing in your own country, you should get support rather than always thinking what mistake is this guy going to make. No one wants to be in that position," Kohli said ahead of the T20I opener against Windies.Ā

In the 13 games that India have played in the T20 formats this year, Pant has scored 201 runs, averaging 20.10 per game against his average of 36.17 in the IPL for the Delhi Capitals. His form is an immediate concern for India, with the youngster lacking the one innings that he needs to get his form back.Ā
