Jonny Bairstow has stated that people are waiting for England to fail so that they can jump on their throat. Former English cricketer Michael Vaughan labelled the English opener’s comments as ‘negative and pathetic’ after England's consecutive losses against Sri Lanka and Australia.

England are currently in hot water after losing back-to-back matches and have two heavyweights in the form of India and New Zealand as their next two opponents. They now find themselves in a position to win both their remaining fixtures in order to guarantee a place in the semi-finals. Their defeats to Sri Lanka and Australia received heavy criticism from many a pundit, including Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen.

“People were waiting for us to fail," said Yorkshire's Bairstow, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. They are not willing us on to win, in many ways, they are waiting for you to get that loss, so they can jump on your throat. It's a typical English thing to do, in every sport." said Bairstow.

Former English cricketer Michael Vaughan tagged Bairstow’s claim that people are waiting for Englnad to fail as ‘negative and pathetic.’ “How wrong can @jbairstow21 be. Never has an England team had so much support but it's you and your team that has disappointed Jonny. WIN 2 games and you are in the semis, With this negative, pathetic mindset I am concerned though. It's not the media's fault you have lost 3 games!!!” Vaughan tweeted.

Bairstow was in unstoppable form in the recently concluded Indian Premier League but hasn’t got really going on the grandest stage of ODI cricket. Bairstow’s hot and cold run coupled with Jason Roy’s mistimed injury has played a huge part in England’s downfall.
