Mohammed Shami has admitted that the success of the Indian pacers, even in subcontinent conditions, is because of maintaining right line and length throughout. India took just two overs on day 4 of the third Test to wrap up the match by an innings and 202 runs and win the series 3-0.
Coming into the series, all the talks on both sides were about the dangerous Indian spin attack, led by the ever-reliant Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. In the end, however, it turned out that the Indian quicks were just as effective — the wickets share going 32 to the spinners, and 26 to the fast bowlers. Shami, chosen to lead the two-man pace attack for the third Test, believes that the success is down to their captains' backing and a unified execution of the basics.
“We were always ready. I knew my job and knew how to operate in Indian conditions. Virat gives us a lot of confidence and freedom. He just sets you free and that helps an individual's confidence. We just try to maintain the right lines and lengths,” Shami said after the match, reported Cricbuzz.
India played their three home Test matches in Vizag, Pune and Ranchi and won the games quite convincingly. The pacer also talked about the Indian crowd backing the team and also about the fitness of the cricketers.
“The Indian crowd is also behind when we play at home. Fitness matters a lot. The team environment speaks highly about fitness. We enjoy each other's confidence. We know our conditions and our fast bowling unit has come up in the last few years,” the Bengal pacer said.
