PKL 2019 | Pro Kabaddi has taken the sport to another level, says Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik has credited the Pro Kabaddi League for taking kabaddi to a different level in the world. The Indian wicketkeeper has also mentioned that India have been World Champions in kabaddi and there is no better way than the PKL for the growth of the sport all around the globe.

PKL has always seen many celebrities from different spheres coming to watch the matches live from the stands and on Saturday, which was the first day of the Chennai leg, Indian cricketer was in the stands in his home town. The wicketkeeper hailed kabaddi while watching his favourite team Tamil Thalaivas taking on Bengaluru Bulls in the Southern Derby at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.

“We’ve been world champions but Pro Kabaddi League has taken the sport to another level. The whole of India is watching it, now that it's streaming live on Star. It is a great place to be. The best of the best take part in the sport and there is no better way to grow the sport than this,” Karthik told Sportstar.

The Chennai cricketer also drew a parallel between the PKL with the Indian Premier League and said that PKL is to kabaddi what IPL is to cricket in India. He also talked about the impact of foreign players playing in the Indian sporting leagues.

“From the inception of Indian Premier League, I have realised the influx of other people from other countries coming and playing the sport always adds a different dimension to it. It is the same with kabaddi as well," the wicketkeeper explained.

Karthik also spent some time in the commentary box and along with him paralympic high jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu was also present at the venue during the first game of Tamil Thalaivas’ home leg.
